U12- U14 Guidelines


Format:

9v9 with a minimum of 6 to play With goalkeepers and referees.

Ball Size: 4

Game Duration:  

Four 15-minute periods. Half time break of 5 - 10 minutes. No other changes from play as specified in FIFA Laws of the Game Printed for the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Practices:

For developing the feel of the game and having fun. At least 1 hr once per week.
Basic skills needed to be learned at practices.

Player Equipment:

Shoes and shinguards, covered by the socks, are mandatory at all practice and game activities. Soccer shoes, tennis shoes, or similar type athletic shoes are recommended. The type and condition of cleated shoes must be inspected for safety before use.

Coaches:

Coaching during the game should be held to a minimum. Let the players have the freedom to play with minimum interruption.

Feild:

The field size for U-12 games is 100 yds long and 50 yds wide (max).

Distinctive lines recommended.

  • Halfway line the width of the field, marked equidistant between the goal lines.
  • Center circle with an eight-yard radius in the center of the field.
  • Corner arcs with a one-yard radius at each corner of the field.
  • Goal area in front of each goal measuring 6 x 15 yards.
  • Penalty area in front of each goal measuring 14 x 30 yards.
  • Penalty mark ten yards from the goal line.
  • Penalty arc extending in a eight-yard radius from the penalty mark.



Goals:

No change from Laws of the game.

Substitution:

Prior to a throw-in, in your favor. Prior to a goal kick by either team. After a goal by either team. After an injury of either team when the referee stops the play. At half-time. All substitutions must be with the referee’s permission.

Start of Play:

Kick offs are used at the beginning of each half and after each goal. All players must remain on their half of the field until the ball is kicked.

Offsides:

Will be called by the referee. 

Free Kicks:

No change from Laws of the Game.

Goal Kick:

No change from Laws of the Game.

Corner Kick:

No change from Laws of the Game.

Throw-Ins:

No change from Laws of the Game.

U-12 Officials:


AYSO certified regional Officials or higher are required for U-12 games.
